Dennis Shipping:
Business With A Human Face
By Ashton Chambers

New York, August 2002: While Jamaica celebrates its 40th anniversary of independence, many of its expatriate sons and daughters share in the festivities, while adding their names to the stellar firmament of New York City. One such sparkler is Mr. Dennis Hawthrne, best known for the high profile 'Dennis Shipping Company, of East Flatbush.
Mr. Hawthorne, who hails from Grande Hill in Westmoreland Jamaica, migrated to the U.S in the early 80's. Back in his homeland at the youthful age of nineteen, he had started a photography business, and here in America he advanced his knowledge of the art and obtained a diploma in Photography and Design Art.
He first ventured on the business scene with Dennis Photography and Shipping. He met with reasonable success, but something was missing, so he directed his energies solely to the business of shipping and things really took off.
Today, Dennis Shipping, located at 1124 Utica Avenue Brooklyn, provides safe reliable and quality services in the Tri-State area and the Caribbean, and the name Dennis Hawthorne is known as a person of honesty and integrity. He has emerged as a central figure in the area of community development. His commitment to the development in the East Flatbush community is immeasurable; plus he is a great humanitarian.
Dennis Hawthorne is dedicated to various outreach programs -- local and international -- offering significant donations and vigilant support. Included among them are the East Flatbush Caribbean American Outreach Association, Kings Highway Development Project, Grange Hill Alumni Association and many local churches, senior civic organizations and schools.
Mr. Hawthorne is numbered among the honorees at the 40th Independence Day celebrations at the Jamaican Consulate in New York under the distinguished patronage of the Rt. Hon. Percival J. Patterson, Prime Minister. He is the recipient of a myriad of honors and awards including a gold pin with the Caribbean Voice insignia, delivered last month at our Caricom Day Networking Presentation.
