Herman Singh,
A Philantropist in the Making
By Govind Dhaya

December 2001: Originally from Guyana, South America, Herman Singh and his parents came to the U.S. over twenty years ago and made it their permanent home. He completed his education here, first becoming an accountant, after which he entered the real estate business, while still under the age of twenty. By age 22, he had attained the level of his company's "Million Dollar Club," and, since then, has had continued success in that business.
In 1987, Mr Singh took an interest in broad cast media. Since then, he has become a producer on the WRTN 93.5FM radio station. He also hosts his own program called "Herman Singh Show Time," which showcases the cultures of the, now thriving, communities of people from the Indian subcontinent and Indo and Afro-Caribbeans in New York City, with a special interest in youth affairs.
This has led him in the direction of cultural event promotions, which in turn has led him to venture into the catering business. At present he owns the "Tropical Gardens" catering hall, which he leases out for all sorts of community events.
Throughout the years, Herman Singh has also demonstrated an unmistakable charitable side to his personality, as evidenced by his selfless contributions of personal time and generous donations to needy causes, locally and beyond. As a result, he has been the past recipient of a number of meritorious citations and awards.
In recent times, Mr Singh has also developed an interest in politics, compelling him to take an active role in the political affairs of his community. He is now a dedicated advocate for issues affecting his district and lends himself to organizing events or assisting the endeavors of worthy political leaders and aspirants. To these ends, he contributes all the resources at his disposal, and, true to his high sense of purpose, is ever conscious of himself not stepping into the limelight.
Herman's latest accomplishment was to win the WRTN "Producer of the Year" award, for being an "incomparable broadcaster" and communicator," with the added distinction of being the first Caribbean person to do so.
What makes Herman Singh a unique individual is his ability for finding his way to where he is needed the most and getting fully involved from start to finish. He is also one of those people who makes positive things happenand humbly moves on. For that reason, he has earned the respect of his community and all his peers.
Herman Singh has been in the real estate business for the past fifteen years now, and is currently the CEO of Tropical Funding Mortgages and Home Link Realty Corp.
